Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a senator and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
